Re: HAITI FUNDRAISING DINNER
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2010
BURLINGTON CONVENTION CENTRE
I am sending this note to you because you have shown an interest in Haiti and have supported our efforts to assist in the recovery since the earthquake in January 2010.
Much has happened since that day when Haitians faced the unbelievable: thousands lost their lives; thousands lost loved ones; thousands lost limbs; thousands lost their homes.
In over thirty years of charity work, this tragedy impacted me emotionally more than any other in which I have been involved. We flew into Port-au-Prince – three doctors and 11 paramedics. Our team getting into Haiti just days after the earthquake was a miracle! Treating pre-operative and post-operative patients in a hot and humid tent and on the hospital grounds under canvas strung between trees affected us all emotionally. We went back to Mission Of Hope each day tired but elated, impressed by the strength of children and adults who, in terrible pain and some with loss of limb, could still smile and thank us.
Now that Haiti is no longer on the front pages of daily newspapers, do we forget the thousands of Haitians who have lost homes and are living in fields and public parks? What about the thousands who are now learning to use prosthetic arms and legs and thousands that still need medical attention?
Our partnership with Mission Of Hope Haiti has provided opportunities for us to continue to meet the needs of so many hurting Haitians. We need resources to make it happen!
Join us at the Haiti Fundraising Dinner featuring real life stories from those who were there during the earthquake and shortly after, including Grant Rumford, a Halton Paramedic working at MOH when the earthquake hit. The ambulance sitting on the grounds of MOH at the time went into action immediately, and … I think Grant needs to tell the rest of the story. We will also hear what’s happening now to deal with the thousands of Haitians still seeking help.
The cost of tickets for this event is $50 per person, or $400 for a table of 8. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m.
To purchase, please go to our website : www.ftccanada.ca/haitifundraiser or call toll free: 1-877-382-2262 .
Purchase options include Visa, MC, Amex
Hope to see you there!

The OPSEU Region 2 educational package is out for October 16/17.
For those who are unfamiliar…
The OPSEU Region 2 Educational committee runs educational weekends three times a year. Any OPSEU member may go, full-time or part-time.
There are six courses to pick from. They change each weekend throughout the year.
Your mileage, meals and hotel room are reimbursed through OPSEU Region 2. Childcare is provided or an allowance for a home babysitter is.
I recommend Stewards 1 for newer members.
If you’re interested in attending or have any questions let me know.
